Welcome to the Tygerberg Section of the Mountain Club of South Africa.

About Us

The Mountain Club of South Africa (MCSA) was founded in 1891 and is one of only two mountain clubs in Africa which are affiliated to the world mountaineering body, the UIAA – International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation.

The Tygerberg Section was founded in 1979 and is one of the youngest of the 14 sections of the MCSA. See links to other sections on the MCSA National Website.

Our members are mostly from the northern suburbs of Cape Town and the section’s activities are focused on hiking which varies from difficult wilderness hikes to family weekends with easy day hikes. To a lesser extent, we also have rock climbing on our list of activities.

Why join the MCSA

Mountain Club members enjoy access to remote mountain areas through property owned by the club, and includes the use of the various sections’ huts. Members also enjoy discount at Cape Union Mart, MountainMailorder and Camp & Climb (hiking gear only), as well as free entry into Kirstenbosch via the Rycroft gate (in order to hike Table Mountain).
